“We love birding, hiking and camping, so we looked for a rural, woodsy setting in which to retire. The location and non-institutional flavor of Uplands appealed to us. As someone said, looking out into the surrounding woods from our sunroom, “You’ve got the best campsite in the park!” “To our delight we also found a ready-made community of wonderful people with whom we share similar values, ideas and life concerns. We helped organize a local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) in this rural county. Marty’s love of books finds an outlet in working with the county Friends of the Library and with our exceptionally fine church library. Although we both grew up in the United Methodist Church and served as overseas missionaries for sixteen years, we now enjoy participating in the very active local United Church of Christ with its dynamic pastor.” |

“With great trepidation, I moved from Connecticut to Uplands at my sister’s urging. I found a wonderful new home, in a beautiful setting, with people who truly care about others. Residents look out for each other and the staff have simplified my life so that I can spend all my time enjoying myself.” “I’m volunteering, playing bridge and dominos, enjoying the company of very congenial people, and walking around park-like grounds truly enjoying nature.” |

"It’s like living in a state park. Stepping out our front door, we can choose from half a dozen delightfully woodsy walks. I can have my canoe out on a secluded lake in fifteen minutes.” “We had been looking for a continuing care retirement community for several years and after finding Uplands, we stopped looking.” |

“Moving to Uplands Retirement Village from NW Ohio was an easy decision for Bob but a more difficult one for Connie. After meeting some Uplands folks and learning about the variety of opportunities available (supportive, progressive community, hilly-wooded setting, close proximity to entertainment and outdoor activities, active mission minded church, opportunity to build a new home at a reasonable price, opportunity to spend our days relaxing in our new home, sightseeing, or in meaningful volunteer work), it became clear that Uplands was a good place for us.” “We, also, appreciate Uplands goal of reaching out to increase the diversity of the couples/individuals (career, racial, lifestyle) who choose Uplands as their retirement community. We could go on about the virtues of URV but you may not believe it until you look for yourself.” |

“We visited new friends in one of the condominiums and were impressed with the recently expanded assisted living facility. The community provided the opportunity for exercise and all sorts of recreation, as well as encouragement among residents to develop and expand all kinds of existing and new skills. The programs organized by the residents cover a wide range of topics from local current affairs to overseas health care issues. Community life is active and yet promotes time for reflection and renewal. We decided we definitely wanted to be a part of the Uplands community and we have not been sorry! We have more close friends, with common interests, than we have ever had before.” |
